♥ we were strangers on a crazy adventure`

Hello all!

Back again! I really feel like shutting down this blog. So lazy to update now that there's Facebook. Oh well.

Day 7- 12 Nov 2009

So, we took the Greyhound bus down from Anaheim to Oceanside. Never ever going to ride with them again. Super stinky and totally uncomfortable. Checked into the luxurious Four Seasons Resort Aviara. I'm surprised the room was ready for us at 10am.

Rested for abit and then decided to have lunch at a restaurant called the Californian Bistro. Super sumptous buffet as you can see from the pictures above. I wished I had the stomach for more of the entrees but dessert is calling! Hahaha.

Oooh, heaven.

Believe it or not, this glass of ice tea costs $5. -.-'

The game room! Oh boy oh boy! The arcade games were all free!! I think my siblings would love this room.

Then it was down to the pretty pretty pool to chillax. The only bummer was that the water was cold when it was kinda chilly outside. It was to the spa after that. Oh, my grandma would love it so.

Washed up and got picked up by Glynn and Corey who brought us to the beach and to dinner.

Yummy.

Ended the night with a drink and then back to the hotel to play in the game room.

Day 8- 13 Nov 2009

Moved from the Four Seasons to the Holiday Inn for our last night. Pretty standard and ok.

Pre-bought tickets to the World Famous San Diego Zoo.

Not going to bore you guys to death with the pictures. So this concludes this entry.
New York entry coming up next. =)

♥ we were strangers on a crazy adventure`

Hello all!

OK! I'm back with the Los Angeles entry. Again, pictures all from my Facebook as I'm at work now. =X

Day 4- 9 Nov 2009

A very short flight less than an hour from San Francisco. Never ever going to take Prime Time Shuttle again. We had to wait for at least 20 mins for our van to come and the driver got lost and couldn't find our hotel. -.-'

Reached the hotel around 10am but the room was ready for us. Beautiful property seeing that it is 80 years old! The key pouch was what made me go WOW. The rest of the furnishings are all standard Four Seasons so nothing to complain. But the pillow was definitely better.

Very classy hotel as well. Just look at the top left picture. That's the lobby. And it is right in the heart of Beverly Hills where Rodeo Drive is. So all the rich tai tais don't have to wear out their Pradas and Guccis. Hahaha.

Furthemore, they provided a house car service that takes you anywhere within a 3 mile radius of the hotel. So we made use of this service to take us to The Grove.

Came back for the real shopping only at night. Our main motive was just to take a bus on the street to Hollywood.

And tadah! Since I've been to LA before, I was their "official" tour guide. I even saw my tour guide on the streets but of course, he wouldn't recognise me. Hahaha.

Some of the more popular people on the Walk of Fame. Did you know? To have your name on the walk, you need to be famous in at least 1 kind of media (Radio, TV, Film & Music) for at least 5 years and contribute $25,000?

Taking this hint from my tour guide last time, we went into the Hollywood & Highland Center to see the Hollywood sign from afar. This is the best spot to actually view it without having to drive up to it. So future LA go-ers, please take note. Although, the sign is still very far. See the picture on the right? If you squint hard enough at the centre, you may just see the sign. LOL.

Walked over next door to the Kodak Theatre.

And then further next door over to the Chinese's Grauman Theatre. Sorry for the lack of pictures and all. Super duper lazy and you can refer to my January entries for more LA info.

Took a bus back to the Grove for more shopping and called for the house car to come pick us up. This time it was a Rolls Royce! Prob my first and only time to ever ride in one. The driver was super duper cute. Your typical friendly uncle.

Day 5- 10 Nov 2009

Pre-bought tickets to Universal Studios the next day. Kinda inaccessible from our hotel. Had to take bus followed by the metro followed by a shuttle.

The red carpet entrance is for show only. We had to enter via a little gate on the right.

The park was super duper empty that day. Most of the rides were between a 5- 10 min wait. Hahaha. I felt that The Mummy ride here was scarier than the one in Orlando. Backdraft was cool. The Simpsons was funny. Haha.

My number 1. Haha. Love this ride to bits.

Lunch at this really cool Flintstones BBQ place.

This has got to be coolest attraction in the whole of Universal Studios Hollywood. It was a 45min "Studio Tour" that brought us to replicas of some movie sets. From broken bridges to race cars being set on fire to flash floods to a shark bursting out of the water to a plane wreck.

Haha, how could us Wyoming-ers miss out of these saloon doors? I love being cheeky.

Shrek 4-D. I think that was the 4th or 5th time I've seen this show. No, seriously. But it still amazes me everytime. Haha.

We actually stood and waited for Spongebob to appear at 3pm. LOL.

The very interesting Animal Show.

And of course, how could one miss out on Waterworld in Universal Studios? Haha, the effects were superb. And not to mention that guy who has a water gun in his right hand. For the pre-show entertainment, he would shoot people with it then looked somewhere else and pretended it wasn't him. Once, he even pretended to sneeze and shoot a lady at the same time!

Wow. These pictures actually came out rather tiny here. Anyway, they are actually the characters that we met. I even got autographs from all of them. Going to print the photos and stick them in the book. =) Happy memories.

Ended the night at Universal Citywalk. Waited for at least 45 mins for the shuttle back. Slept real early that night and we checked out at 430am the next morning. Had to get to the train station for our Amtrak to Anaheim.

Day 6- 11 Nov 2009

The Front Desk staff were nice enough to let us check in at the ungodly timing of 7am. Being in this line myself, that is definitely something quite impossible. Haha. The room was as expected, very Disney-ish. Stole the toiletries.

Explored the hotel a bit before heading over to Disneyland. A pity we couldn't stay longer. The facilities were amazing.

Haha, all the badges and cards collected that day. It was Veteran's Day. The crowd. My goodness. The queues.

The first two rides we took. Haha, I dunno why but whenever I visit Disneyland, I would definitely start in Tomorrowland. ALWAYS.
The rest of the Tomorrowland rides.

No sun. =( If not the pictures would look even prettier.

Some little statues surrounding the Walt Disney statue. Love the Pinocchio one. Very storytelling.

Sleeping Beauty castle in its full Christmas glory. It was so pretty at night with all the lights and all.

The bloody churros costs $3 but it was so worth it. Hahaha.

The Haunted Mansion Holiday. It was like a mix of Halloween & Christmas.

I just had to take that picture of Eeyore and that boy.

Me so brave. =D

Lunch at the Plaza Inn. Superb. But we missed the character greetings.

Walked through the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

The shortest and most "waste my time" q-ing ride of all. Hahah.

Fantasyland.

My first ever visit to Mickey's Toon Town. I felt old. LOL.

Main Street USA.

Rushed over to Disney's Californian Adventure. We got there a little too late. Most of the rides were like a 45 min wait.

Haha, got wet on this. But it was crazily fun.

Wanted so badly to go on California Screamin' but no one wanted to go with me. =(

But I did go on the Maliboomer all alone. Hahaha.

Ended the day with the Bug's Life 3D movie and the Pixar Play Parade.

Rushed back to Disneyland for the 7pm Celebrate! A Street Party parade followed by the river fireworks show, Fantasmic. All videos can be found below.

The characters we met that day. Pretty satisfied actually. Got to meet Mickey at last. Very lazy to explain each meeting so please just refer to my Facebook for the captions. LOL.

Ok, finally done. Next up will be the San Diego entry.

♥ we were strangers on a crazy adventure`

Hello all!

20 days without an update. Did you miss me? =D Anyhoo, I'm back with this entry on my vacation. Took all the photos from my Facebook (because I'm at work right now). But just so you know, I took 3770 photos (that's a whopping 14GB!) in the 12 days.

So as you guys already know, my resort closes for the off season for 3 weeks. I still get 9 days of pay during this period. Don't ask me why; it's complicated. Starting with the 3 days in San Francisco.

Day 1- 6 Nov 2009

Flew into San Francisco via Salt Lake City. Small boring airport. The skies of SFO was as predicted, gloomy and dark.

The BART connected us from the airport to the hotel. Very convenient. The room wasn't ready when we arrived which by the way was past check in time (more on that later) so we decided to go grab some food first.

The hotel was located in the most perfect San Francisco location ever- on Market Street right in the heart of Union Square. And that means, shopping!! Hey, we're 3 very deprived girls whose only real shopping was done via online shopping.

But of course, before the shopping, food was the priority. Introduced them to The Cheesecake Factory. I'm so gonna miss this restaurant when I leave. Thinking we were heading to Chinatown for a late dinner, we only got appetizers. But that was definitely enough. We took the cheesecake back to the hotel.

The skyline of Union Square. Taken from outside of the Cheesecake Factory. -.-' In the end, we were kinda too exhausted (and lazy) to head to Chinatown so it was back to the hotel for the night.

Welcome to the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco! Interestingly enough, we only checked in at 8pm. =X Turns out there were some big shot NBA players that had LCOs at 530pm so many of the rooms were not available. Being fellow employees (and on complimentary stays), we of course understood and even if we were unhappy, what could we do? Scream? LOL. But being so "nice" according to the Front Desk staff, they gave us a two category upgrade. =) Isn't the room just too pretty? And not to mention huge too. But I hated the pillows. Remind me to request for foam instead of feathers next time.

Day 2- 7 Nov 2009

The next morning. Woke up early just to grab the complimentary hot choco. And acting all Four Seasonsly, we hung the newspaper card out and also made use of their complimentary shoe shine service.

Started the day off with the main must-do in San Francisco, a visit to the Alcatraz Island. The cruise there was already a bonus itself since it was such a beautiful day.

Not going to bore you guys too much with the stories and history of the prison. Go Google it.

Next was a Pier 39 which is part of the famous Fisherman's Wharf. I really really like Pier 39. How do I describe it? It's like a funfair that's over bursting with shops and restaurants. Fun and excitement round every corner.

But of course, shopping & sightseeing second, food always comes first. Fresh seafood. Yum.

Sights around Pier 39. We only managed to spot 1 seal. =(

And then we walked further up just to take a picture of the Fisherman's Wharf sign. And also to feast on the gracious choices of seafood again. Look at that selection!

If you're ever in San Francisco, go try the seafood from Nick's Lighthouse No. 5.

Decided to be a little more touristy and ride the cable car back to the hotel. $5 for 1 way. Totally taking advantage of the tourist thing. Haha, but it was a fun ride. We went up and over the hills.

Day 3- 8 Nov 2009

Had breakfast the next morning at the restaurant. 50% off F&B. Otherwise, I wouldn't have eaten there. Crazily expensive. A glass of OJ, choice of pastry, 2 eggs of any style, choice of breakfast meat, potatoes and coffee/tea costs $32! -.-'

Today's main itinerary was the Golden Gate Bridge. Had to ride 2 buses to get there but it was totally worth it. Very grand and the scenery was fabulous.

Oh, did I mention how I love the new lens? =)

Then finally it was to Chinatown. San Francisco holds the largest amount of Chinese in the whole of North America. Lots of local delicacies. We bought the Enoki Mushrooms home but alas, it couldn't last for the next 9 days and gave off the most pungent smell when I opened it then.

Lunch at a Dim Sum restaurant to curb that craving.

Don't remember what we did that night. I think there was a lot of packing though. Haha. Ok, I'll be right back with my next entry when Yan Wan goes to Los Angeles again!

C-L-O-S-U-R-E ! ! ! :)

Hello all!

I'm so happy. We are closed for the Summer at long last. I'm glad to say that I've survived 6 months of overnightys. And so glad to be done with them. Haha. Back to a regular sleep schedule! YAY!

Christian's last day a couple of days ago. The top pictures are all taken at our Room Service department. I love that department. Free food all around for us hungry overnighters. LOL! And I so have to get new pants. Look at how low they fall in the 1st picture. Haha. But I'm so glad that we are getting new tops. The picnic pink has so gotta go. We're now moving on to green! -.-'

Ok, so it's now a few days of relaxation and catching up on my dramas before the long awaited holiday!

♥ we were strangers on a crazy adventure`

Hello all!

Back again. We're finally in the last week of operation for the Summer. Closure in 3 days. Holiday in 10 days. Home in about 80 days. Can't wait! =D

The newest Nicholas Sparks novel that came out last month. Finished the books in just 2 nights. It was long. 177 pages. A4. It made me cry while I was reading it at work. Can't wait till the movie comes out in April 2010. Though I really can't see how Miley Cyrus is able to portray the lead character, "Ronnie". Hmmm. Oh, and an interesting fact. Nicholas Sparks first wrote the screenplay before the novel. And he was told to base the lead character on Miley Cyrus. LOL.

Another Nicholas Sparks novel I read a few months back. The movie's coming out in Feb 2010. I didn't like the ending in the novel so I'm hoping the director made some changes cos the trailer didn't reveal anything. Hahaha.

So, quite a number of interesting news in the paper these days. But the number one on my list definitely has to be the one where a Northwest Airlines plane heading from San Diego to Minneapolis accidentally overshot its destination by 150 miles. Reason: "The pilots told the National Transportation Safety Board that they missed their destination because they had taken out their personal laptops in the cockpit, a violation of airline policy, so the first officer, Richard I. Cole, could tutor the captain, Timothy B. Cheney, in a new scheduling system put in place by Delta Air Lines, which acquired Northwest last fall. It also said that the pilots had heard voices over their cockpit radios but ignored them." -.-' Look at the flight path. LOL.

This second piece is kinda stupid. At least the parents were. "Richard and Miyuki Heene reported their 6-year-old son Falcon had been carried away by a homemade helium balloon Oct. 15; he was later found hiding in an attic at the family home. They caused a public panic when they allegedly knew he was safe in their home." But surprise surpise, all this was actually a planned hoax by the parents in a bid to shoot the family to stardom and have their own reality show. Guess now, the only thing this family is gonna be shot to is the court with fraud charges. Dumbos.

And now for life's updates. Nothing much in these 2 weeks though. We had dinner at the Westbank Grill to celebrate Pei Ting's birthday. Complimentary glass of champage. =)

The appetizers. The soup was so good, we ordered another bowl. Haha.

And the main courses. Chef Simon was nice enough to split the 3 courses up so we don't have to dig into them at the table.

And a little birthday surprise for the birthday girl. I handmade the designs on that pumpkin head ok? Haha.

My new baby has arrived! It's the second most expensive purchase I've ever made in my life but I love it soooo.

Some test shots I took at sunrise after work one day.

Yawn. Ok, back to work. I can't wait for this to be over!

Bye!

♥ we were strangers on a crazy adventure`

Hello all!

10 days without an update. Tsk Tsk. Haha. Oh, remember I said this Sunday would be my last overnight shift for the season? Well, not anymore. They're making me come back to work as the overnight bellboy/girl for 9 nights! Hahaha. It's gonna be fun, I hope. Not to mention, I get to earn some more holiday money. =D

So, it looks like the Hilton Hotels Group changed its name, logo, website and slogan. It's now called Hilton Worldwide with not really a new logo because it's basically taking their oldest logo (not the blue one with the H in a cirle; the red one [go Google it]), inverting it around and colouring it gold and silver. And what is up with the slogan, "Filling the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality". I'm so glad I'm not working for them. LOL.

Oh, did I forget to mention? I have only 3 months left! Whoopeedoo!

Anyway, we went to Yellowstone again yesterday. Last time I'll ever drive in because no cars are allowed in during the winter, only snow mobiles and snow coaches.

It was cold yesterday. Raining and snowing too. If the clouds were dispersed and the sun was shining down, this scenery would be even prettier. Hahaha.

The top photo reads, "Look Ma! 5th time to Yellowstone!" LOL. No seriously, it was my 5th time there.

First stop was to West Thumb Geyser Basin. Lots of elk there. Warming up by the warm geyser steam as the temperature starts to drop. Look at those antlers! If he were to charge, we'll be human kebabs on a stick. Hahaha.

The sky started to clear up. Pretty pretty.

Wanted to warm up by the hot geysers, but even the steam came up cold! The temptation to jump in is indescribable. Hahaha.

Bison (again). Haha. We were the only car right by the road. And we did something we shouldn't have. We came out from the car even though we were just less than 8 feet away from the bison. Haha. Oops.

Next up was to Hayden Valley. Saw tonnes of bison on the opposite ledge. And a pile of poo.

The Grand Canyon. Couldn't walk down to the edge of the waterfall because the trail was closed due to ice and snow. Bummer. Oh well, we explored a top part of the falls this time.

LOL. Yin Yin says the last photo is my classic, "Hou Jia" pose.

The Mongolian influenced huts are warming huts that visitors use in the winter. And while waiting for the Old Faithful Geyser to erupt, we went into the visitor centre and saw a whole table of taxi dermy animals. Poor things.

4.27pm eruption. We took a quick photo and went to reserve first row seats. Haha.

It erupted about 5 mins past 4.27pm. I think I have more than 50 photos of the geyser erupting in my laptop. Hahaha.

Ended the day with this beautiful sunset on the drive home. Wished I had a better camera to capture the exact colours we saw.

Speaking of cameras, I so want to buy a new camera lens or even better a new camera. But they're all so expensive!! Christmas present volunteers? =)

Alright, I'm going to check on the soup I was boiling, have myself a good lunch and glue myself to the computer for the next 10 hours or so. Tata!
